Healthy in mind, body and spirit
While October is well-known for breast cancer awareness, at St. Ann,
it is also a time to celebrate the overall health and wellness of women. Issues such as breast and ovarian cancer, osteoporosis, heart disease and diabetes are significant health issues for every woman. Regular health screenings and health care visits are vital in keeping a
woman physically healthy.
Caring for the mind and spirit is just as important. Making time for self-care is vital. Perhaps a personal quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday routine is all one needs. This could be a weekend away with the girls, a night out with friends (like a SisterTalk event, pictured above), a date with a spouse, a walk before the family wakes up, Bible study, time before the Blessed Sacrament in adoration, or a 15-minute daily prayer time in a quiet place at home.
Whatever you choose to do, do it for yourself. Remember, women’s
health and wellness are not just about disease prevention. Awareness of
the interconnectedness between family, faith, physical health, work,
nutrition, exercise and emotions is key to what is called integrated health - something we all need to have.
“Scripture shows us that the closer we become to Jesus through prayer,
Mass, and receiving the sacraments, the healthier we become,” said
Stephanie Holden, director of Encounter, St. Ann’s adult faith ministry. “Jesus doesn’t promise to cure all afflictions, but we are made whole through a relationship with him.”
