Happy Father's Day
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, granddads, foster fathers, stepfathers, father in action who are among us or to those who are in heaven. A dad of any kind is a critical person who brought us to life, or shared his love or showed us the way to the fulness of life. We celebrate the blessings that we received from you and continue to appreciate every day your grace in our lives.
These days I have special memories of my own dad who is now with the Lord and who showed me many things in life: from fostering my vocation, to enjoying those special family times of vacation and to his love of sports. The night before he died, I was in the hospital at his bed side. Our final conversation was about the upcoming NBA draft where he instructed me for over an hour as to who the Celtics should be drafting so that they could once again become a championship team. He is celebrating these days with the Lord after two victories over the Mavericks and on their way to a NBA championship, I hope.
To all of you who are dads – thank you! To all of you who have a dad who guided you through life be grateful. To those of you whose dad has become your close friend like mine we are truly blessed.
Dad’s service in the community is a special focus that we are trying to improve. This Friday the dads among us will be holding a barbeque for their families. We as a parish are rededicating our efforts to strengthen family life ministry these days. In July we’ll be holding some special listening session for us to discern how to restart our family like of liturgy, AND socially, AND spiritually, AND faith formation AND even more that you bring up. Meeting with MOMs and DADS together I hope we can see many new and old ways that we can make our parish more supportive of our young growing families. We ask all in the parish to support our efforts to strengthen family life here at St. Ann.
