Faith for kids: Children's liturgy brings faith to their level

The folks who have embraced the family Mass, held each Sunday during the school year at 10:30 in the Nolan Hall Teen Center, are all smiles. Their young children are learning our faith in a method suited to the squirmy set.

“The family Mass is different because it is more interactive and informal than the other Masses held in the ‘big church’,” said parishioner Kristen Zychinski.

For about 20 minutes of each family Mass, kids ages 5-9 are invited to attend the CLOW session – short for Children’s Liturgy of the Word – which is an opportunity for them to sing songs, watch a video of the readings and Gospel, and talk about the message in a kid-friendly way.

The program is led by parent volunteers. As the Liturgy of the Word begins, the children are dismissed to Nursery A where for prayer and worship. They return to Mass as the Liturgy of the Eucharist is about to begin.

“For my own kids, I love that they can come to CLOW, learn about the readings and message, and have some fun at the same time,” Zychinski said. “I do think they learn more because it’s all presented in a way that's designed for kids.”
