WHO (Widowed Helping Others)
Who We Are & What We Do
Widowed Helping Others (WHO) is a compassionate and welcoming ministry for those who have lost a spouse. We provide a supportive community where no one feels alone in their grief. Through monthly dinners, casual gatherings, and acts of service, members find friendship, healing, and a renewed sense of purpose. Whether you are newly widowed or have been on this journey for some time, WHO offers a place to connect with others who understand and care.
Why We Exist
Jesus calls us to “comfort those who mourn” (Matthew 5:4), and WHO embodies this mission by walking alongside widows and widowers as they navigate life after loss. Through fellowship and shared experiences, we help each other find new beginnings while remaining deeply connected to the love and memories of our spouses. Our ministry also extends its service to the broader St. Ann’s community by supporting parish events and outreach programs.
Who We Serve
WHO serves widows and widowers of all ages, offering them companionship, encouragement, and opportunities to give back. Our members find solace and strength in shared experiences, knowing they are not alone. Beyond personal support, we actively contribute to ministries like Saint Vincent De Paul and My Brother’s Keeper, and assist with parish events such as the garage sale and Apple Annie craft show.
Volunteer Opportunities
We welcome volunteers to serve in various ways, including:
- Event Planning & Hospitality: Help organize and set up for monthly dinners and special gatherings.
- Service Projects: Participate in outreach efforts by collecting donations and volunteering at parish events.
- Support & Mentorship: Offer guidance and friendship to those who are newly widowed. Whether you have time to help occasionally or want to be more involved, there’s a meaningful place for you in WHO.
Special Requirements
There are no special requirements to join WHO, just an open heart and a willingness to support one another. Volunteers helping with certain parish outreach projects may need to complete a safe environment VIRTUS training and a background check to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being.
