Who We Are & What We Do

The Sacristan Ministry plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and reverent celebration of the Mass. Sacristans prepare the church for liturgical celebrations by setting up vessels, linens, and other essential items, allowing the focus to remain on prayer and worship. Their behind-the-scenes dedication supports the clergy and enhances the sacred experience for the entire parish community

Why We Exist

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20). The Sacristan Ministry exists to support the prayerful gathering of our parish by attending to the practical needs of the liturgy. By handling the essential preparations before and after Mass, sacristans help create a sacred space where all can encounter Christ in worship

Who We Serve

Sacristans serve the entire parish community by ensuring that every liturgical celebration is prepared with care and reverence. From coordinating with the clergy to assisting Extraordinary Ministers and altar servers, sacristans make it possible for Mass to unfold smoothly, allowing all present to fully participate in the Eucharist.

Volunteer Opportunities

We welcome dedicated individuals to serve as sacristans. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the altar and sacred vessels before Mass
  • Collaborating with the Mass Coordinator in ensuring all Communion ministers are ready.
  • Guiding altar servers as needed
  • Overseeing the proper cleanup and storage of liturgical items after Mass Sacristans are scheduled in advance and typically serve based on availability

Special Requirements

Sacristans must be at least 18 years old and in full Communion with the Catholic Church. All sacristans first serve as Extraordinary Ministers before taking on this additional role. When assigned, sacristans are expected to arrive at least 45 minutes before Mass to ensure all preparations are completed.
