Reconciliation frees us from sin and calls us to show the same compassion and forgiveness to others. As the Prayer of St. Francis reminds us, “It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.”
Jesus entrusted the ministry of reconciliation to the Church. In confession, we repent, acknowledge our sins, and receive absolution, restoring our friendship with God and the Church. This Sacrament reminds us that we cannot live apart from Him: “In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).

Act of contrition
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.
If you are ill or not ready for an in-person encounter, Pope Francis encourages you to turn to God directly: be specific about your sins, ask for His pardon, and experience His loving forgiveness. Read more here.
