Lent is a season of renewal through the acts of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Beginning with Ash Wednesday, it is a time of repentance in preparation for the resurrection of the Lord at Easter. We are DISCIPLES ON A JOURNEY, invited to renewal during these 40 days of meditation.

During Lent, we will experience opportunities for sacrifice and hospitality as we all seek the light of Christ. Share in the journey to sacrament with those being welcomed into the Church at the Easter Vigil.  Be with us as we come together as DISCIPLES ON A MISSION. Follow us as we are sent forth as lighthouses of hope for others seeking Jesus. At St. Ann, there is a place for you.

A season of prayer

Lenten prayers

Liturgy of the Hours

During your Lenten journey, you may find yourself looking to add prayer time into your day. St. Ann has added the opportunity to pray in community with the Liturgy of the Hours, a method of structured daily prayer based on Scripture. The Hours are based on the Psalms and consist of praise and prayer for the salvation of the community and the world.

  • Evening prayers: Wednesdays, 6:15pm (except March 6)
  • Morning prayers: March 28-30, 9:00am

Fasting and almsgiving opportunities

Fasting in Lent

  • Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence from meat..
  • Each Friday in Lent, we are asked to abstain from meat.
  • During Lent, consider fasting or only consuming what you need as part of your prayer and sacrifice.

Have questions about fasting, how it relates to your prayer life, or the rules of fasting during Lent? Read more here.

Almsgiving opportunities

St. Vincent de Paul Society: This ministry offers many ways to give this Lenten season. One way you can help is with a monetary donation. Your financial support helps our parish train and assist members of our community directly. Giving a little more during Lent helps in so many ways. Find more information at st-ann/svdp. Donate at st-ann.org/give.

Special collections: St. Ann gives us an opportunity each month to give to a special fund set up by the Church, archdiocese, or parish.  Often called second collections, they are a focused effort to support those who are in need through the charitable arm of the Catholic Church and directly in our community. Donate at st-ann.org/give.

Easter flowers: Consider donating any money saved from your Lenten sacrifices to creating a beautiful altar for our Easter celebrations. Donate at st-ann.org/give.

CRS Rice Bowl: This organization helps the poor of the world by concentrating on hunger and relief efforts. Reflect on the story of "The Good Samaritan" as a part of your Lenten almsgiving.

Catholic Charities Atlanta: Helping those in need our area through counseling, financial support, housing assistance, refugee settlement, and more.

Beautiful Eucharist

by Matthew Kelly

Nothing will transform your life quite like a personal encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist. When we encounter Jesus, he changes us in powerful and unexpected ways. He heals us, brings us peace and clarity, models how to relate with others, and teaches us the lessons we need to learn to navigate the everyday situations of our lives. In the Eucharist, we meet with the same Jesus who healed the blind, forgave sins, and rose from the dead. Are you ready to discover how he can transform your life too?

Beautiful Eucharist is a stunning collection of life-changing reflections about Jesus truly present in the Eucharist and wonderfully present in our lives. The world needs the healing and hope only Jesus can provide. He is waiting in the Eucharist to transform families, churches, communities, and the culture as a whole. And all of that begins with your own life-changing encounter with him today.

Beautiful Eucharist is an invitation to encounter the life-giving presence of Jesus in the Eucharist so you can be a life-giving presence in the world.
