building blocks: Career quest preps interviewees
Every Tuesday night, they descend on Donnellan Café, some with dashed dreams and in dire straits, others with insight and inspiration to share. Many will leave with renewed spirits and the skills to land a job that will change their lives.
For more than 30 years, the Career Quest ministry has been helping people from all over Atlanta hone their job interview techniques. The group’s dedicated leader, John Marotto, estimates more than 40,000 people have come to this St. Ann ministry over the years.
“We’re just incredibly gratified,” he said, “that through whatever skills we were helping [clients] build that they landed a successful job.”
The program starts each week at 6:30pm with a prayer before moving to speed networking and one-on-one coaching. After that, there is a workshop designed to provide self-help tools and solutions. Marotto says it’s the time and talent of the “awesome volunteers,” who mainly come from the parish, that make a difference in clients’ lives.
“I lost my job at the end of May … and I felt ashamed, lost and had little self-confidence,” one client recounted in an email to Marotto.“The tools that were offered by the [Career Quest] coaches, speakers and you empowered me to reinvent and market myself.”
